Lorraine sees space like an artist,
understands space like a designer,
and interprets space like a storyteller.

Two homes — Montréal, Quebec & Halifax, Nova Scotia

Lorraine’s artistic practice is flexible, adaptable, and socially-responsive, and manifests itself through performance, intervention and installation—digital, 2D, or 3D. Lorraine is particularly interested in the convergence of feminist and counterhegemonic theory, the built environment, the body in space, and accessibility. She continues to challenge herself as an artist and human by learning new ways to create.

Lorraine is driven by curiosity and creativity. As an interpretive manager, she is like a theatrical director; she provides a vision of what the project will do for its audience and orchestrates the work of all those concerned to realize that vision. As a creative director, she inspires her team to look a little closer, dig a little deeper, try something new, and take a leap of faith. Her methodologies are founded on inclusive research and storytelling. Lorraine takes great pleasure in consulting with subject matter experts, conducting interviews, and uncovering the most obscure and fascinating material. Her formal education and continuous artistic and design practices contribute to Lorraine’s unique perspective, attention to detail, and ability to synthesize large amounts of cultural, historical, and natural information into something that can engage exhibit visitors emotionally and intellectually.

She has a degree in Graphic Design (Dawson College), a Bachelor of Fine Art (Concordia University) and a Masters of Fine Art (NSCAD University). Lorraine has worked as a designer in Brisbane, AUS, as well as Vancouver, Montreal, and Halifax. In 2017, she was a panelist at the International Council of Fine Arts Deans (ICFAD) conference in Halifax and presented a paper on alternative art pedagogies at the Universities Art Association of Canada (UAAC) conference in Banff, AB. The following year, Lorraine co-facilitated a round-table addressing Land & Treaties at UAAC in Waterloo, ON. She has been a scholar at the Centre for Art Tapes (Halifax), and participated in the Plug-In Institute of Contemporary Art Summer Session on Indigenous Architecture in Winnipeg, MB. She has most recently completed a writing residency at Ross Creek Centre for the Arts (NS). Her work has appeared in festivals, venues, galleries, and at various sites in Canada and Australia, including “Steps Forward,” a permanent installation on the Skyline Trail in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park (NS).

She previously worked at Aldrich Pears Associates and Fathom Studio as an interpretive planner, exhibition planner and designer, and researcher, and takes on the odd consulting and design contract when she can. Contact her directly for a chat and to see her design portfolio.
